Crucible Character Study of Abigail Williams
Abigail Williams, a vicious antagonist from Arthur Millers The Crucible, will stop at nothing to attain her demented goals. In another writerââ¬â¢s hands, Abby could have been portrayed in a sympathetic light. After all, she is under age and has been sleeping with a supposedly honorable man thirteen years her senior. ââ¬â¹Arthur Miller, however, finds little humanity within her. Abigail Williams' Reputation Throughout the play, Proctor labels her a ââ¬Å"harlotâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"whore.â⬠And perhaps Miller isnââ¬â¢t far off. According to the playwrightââ¬â¢s research, the real Abigail Williams turned to prostitution several years after the Salem Witch Trials. Her Almost Unrealistic Characteristics She convinces young women to dance in the dark forest (a sinful act by Puritan standards). She practices voodoo in an attempt to win back her lover, John Proctor. She feigns demonic possession, luring the rest of the girls to behave the same way.She plants evidence of witchcraft in Elizabeth Proctorââ¬â¢s home, hoping to send her to the gallows. She manipulates the judges and denies having a relationship with Proctor. Perhaps the most sinister act takes place after a dozen citizens have been hanged. Abigail steals Rev. Parrisââ¬â¢ life savings and runs away, never to be heard from again. In short, Miss Williams is a wretched, diabolic person!

A Reflection Of The Mexican Revolution - 1713 Words
A Reflection of the Mexican Revolution ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢I love the revolution like a volcano in eruption; I love the volcano because itââ¬â¢s a volcano; the revolution because itââ¬â¢s the revolution!ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ cries a revolutionary soldier in Azuelaââ¬â¢s The Underdogs (159). The Mexican Revolution of 1910 was aimed to overthrow the dictatorship of the Mexican government, which was in constant turmoil as presidents were constantly toppled from power. Porfirio Diaz, the president at the time the uprising began, was removed from power when revolutionary generals, Emiliano Zapata and Francisco ââ¬Å"Panchoâ⬠Villa, answered Francisco Maderoââ¬â¢s call for rebellion. After Madero took power, he was defeated by Victoriano Huerta. Venustiano Carranza seized power from Huerta, and Alvaro Obregon gained control after Carranza was deposed. The revolution lasted a decade and ended with the new Mexican Constitution of 1917. These events are told in The Underdogs, by Marian o Azuela, in which a native Indian, Demetrio Macias, is forced to side with and aid the rebels when his home is destroyed and his loved ones are put in danger. Throughout the battles, Macias becomes hardened by war, which eventually leads him into Villaââ¬â¢s army as a general. Yet, his original gang of rebels and newly recruited men begin to lose battle after battle. The soldiers go to war and some do not come back. We will write a custom essay sample on Beowulf and Gilgamesh are Epic Heroes But the Seafarer isnââ¬â¢t and Hereââ¬â¢s Why or any similar topic only for you Order Now The Seafarer, in contrast, had a different motivation and an entirely different quest. Beowulf and Gilgamesh have journeys that fit the traditional epic hero. In Beowulfââ¬â¢s story, his journey consisted of killing monsters. He killed Grendel who terrorized Herot. ââ¬Å"Beowulf, a prince of the Geats, had killed Grendelâ⬠¦from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monsterââ¬â¢s arm, claw and shoulder and all. â⬠(ââ¬Å"Beowulfâ⬠Lines 510-517). Teens Should Have Part-time Jobs Essays - Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Teens Should Have Part-time Jobs Having a job as a teen can be a difficult task, but most teens are responsible enough to work. It's a good experience to apply, interview, and keep a job. You learn to work with and get along with all kinds of people. You also meet new friends. My opinion concerning working teens is that most can handle the pressure and the responsibility. Working helps a teen learn responsibility. Teens must be able to fill out an application and answer questions about themselves and their abilities. After getting the job, a teen has to be at work on time. Sometimes they have to sacrifice fun activities because of their job. Teens also have to do a job well and perform with 100% of their skills. They should not just half way do a job, just because they are lazy or don't feel like doing it. Working, teaches teens what it will be like to hold a job when they are adults, and what a big responsibility it is. They also will already have working experience. Working teens are too busy to get into trouble. Fewer teens would be on the street, if more teens held a job. If more teens got jobs, there would most likely be a lot less graffiti on walls and buildings. The crime rate among teens would drop drastically. Gangs would not be ?hanging out? on the street, instead they would be serving themselves and the community. The number of car related accidents among teens would decrease, keeping the roads safe for other drivers as well as pedestrians. Having a job could help a teen have enough money to open a checking or savings account. A savings account will help the teen save money for college, a car, or other large expenses for the future. It pays interest which makes the account built up faster. A checking account can teach a teen how to balance a checkbook and how to write a check. It will show them how to keep up with how much money they have and how to manage that money wisely. Having a checking account can help you stay on a budget if you need to make a car payment or other payment each month. Teens can earn extra money to spend on themselves instead of bumming money off of their mother or father every time they need something. For instance, if a teen got a job at a convenience store they could get paid minimum wage. Minimum wage is $5.25, which could average up to $630.00 a month or $7,560 a year, depending on how many hours are worked. Most teens love listening to music, and they buy CDs or tapes to listen to. A job wou ld help pay for these. Some teens are lucky enough to have a car to drive. Therefore, they will need money for gas, for the expensive insurance they must have, and for all the extras like carwashes,or getting it fixed, or tune-ups. Some teens could help out their parents with utility bills, food, and other expenses. Having a job as a teen is a huge responsibility, but it can also be rewarding. It builds social skills by helping the teen learn to work with all kind of people in different situations. It builds job skills and responsibility. It also builds financial skills by teaching a teen to deal with money at the place they work at and how to manage their own money. All teens should have the opportunity to get a job, if they desire.
